A Black Lacquer Table with Three Drawers

BLACK LACQUER TABLE WITH THREE DRAWERS, CHOUTIZHOU (18450)

China c. 1880′s

A Chinese nanmu (similar to cedar from the evergreen/laurel family) black lacquered long table of square corner construction with a flush-fitting, floating panel top and recessed side panels. The front has three drawers of equal length with butterfly styled brass back plates.  The interior body of the table and the edge around each drawer frame is detailed with a simple beaded edge.  The legs are of square section and end in a short horse-hoof foot.  (An additional coat of lacquer applied)
